The March 6 Student Band Concert was a huge success! Our beginner adult band Sudo, backed up by professional musicians, looked and sounded more confident than ever. Our teen band, the 2 O’Clock Club, pulled off their second show with solid performances on keys and top-notch vocals, backed up by student bassist Eva and coaches Kenny and Adrienne. Our long-running intermediate all-ages band, Brit and the Boys, notched one more successful show with mostly original songs, a show which keeps improving every single time with guidance from coach Joe. This was the first showcase that was made up solely of student bands and we were immediately invited back!
Wow! We just had our biggest showcase EVER on November 14! Three client bands, 25 singers, and almost 50 songs!
The seven-hour event started off at 2pm with our client bands. The showcase with the professional backing band started at 5pm and went til 9pm, after which many people hung around to chat and sing karaoke until the wee hours.
Songs included everything you can imagine – a touching Avett Brothers song, upbeat blues, original electronic pop, dance hits like “Still Feel” and “Don’t Start Now”, a screaming metal cover of “Genie in a Bottle,” an acoustic Ani diFranco selection, and even a punk rock cover of “Superstar” by The Carpenters.
The crowd was wild, with enthusiastic support all day – and even some dancing and headbanging later in the evening!
HUGE thanks to our talented professional backing band who learned 40+ custom song requests for this one show, including several great originals written by our clients.
We are pleased to announce our new 18-month vocal teacher training program for new voice teachers.
This program gives teachers with music industry education or experience 18 months of instruction and experience before becoming full-fledged Performance High teachers. From there, they move on to become accredited IVTOM (International Voice Teachers of Mix) teachers.
To enter the program, teachers must interview with Performance High and show evidence of existing musical and vocal skills; empathy and emotional intelligence; problem-solving skills; and real music industry experience and/or university level music education (preferably vocal performance or similar).
To graduate from the program, teachers must teach 200 lesson hours; meet weekly in a group to receive instruction on various vocal science and vocal pedagogy topics; meet twice a month one-on-one with a Performance High mentor teacher; work with at least 10 different clients with varying skills and personalities; demonstrate mix in their own voices; demonstrate piano and music theory skills; get positive feedback from their test clients; and get approval from a Performance High mentor.
We welcome our six teacher trainees for the fall 2021-spring 2023 class! Two are existing Performance High instrument teachers, two are long-time Performance High students, and two are outside hires from CU’s music department. All six are incredibly talented vocalists/musicians and wonderful human beings.
If you would like to take lessons with a teacher in training, contact us. Rates are 15% lower for the first year. We are starting to book this cohort with beginning students in December 2021.
If you would like to become a teacher in training, feel free to contact us – however, the current class is closed for enrollment. The next class may start in spring 2023.

We are proud to congratulate Charlie Fox on the release of her debut LP “Alive”!
Charlie Fox is an incredible artist, dynamic performer, and a former student of Adrienne’s.
“A true songwriter at heart, her words reveal the story of her personal life and address life issues to which most people can relate.” – Allen Jimenez AXS contributor
After working intensely with her for several months last year to prepare her vocals for studio recording, Adrienne was honored with the opportunity to sing backup for her debut EP release show at Syntax Physic Opera, along with her good friend Marisa Beaver.
We are very excited to see her success and looking forward to all that comes next.
You can learn more about Charlie Fox and her LP “Alive” here.
We’re pleased to congratulate Kelly Augustine for being recognized as a New Folk Finalist by the 2018 Kerrville Folk Festival! Her debut album will be released in 2019, but one of the singles off that upcoming album has been selected from among 600 entries as a finalist. She will be traveling to south Texas to play at the Kerrville Folk Festival at the end of May.
Adrienne has been working with Kelly on vocals, and Justin has been working with her on branding and strategy, for about a year. We’re so pleased to see her success. Congratulations, Kelly!
The Mile High Blaze, a women’s semi pro tackle football team in Denver, seeks national anthem singers for April 14, May 19, June 2 and June 9. Contact Wyn Flato-Dominy at 303-993-9945.
We’re proud to hear that Andreas DeValera, a high school senior Justin and Adrienne have been working with for almost three years, has been accepted to attend Berklee College of Music in the fall! Andreas is in the process of finishing his first album and plans to have an album release concert before he leaves for school.
Our 6th-grade singer Kali Hoeksema-Walker just found out she has been accepted into Denver School of the Arts for 2018! There are only a small handful of spots open for 7th graders, as most students enter DSA in 6th grade and continue on. Congratulations to Kali – her hard work on sight singing, reading rhythm, learning musical notation, and singing a cappella over the last several months has paid off!
Ever wonder what kind of student takes voice lessons with Kristin at Performance High in Lafayette? Here’s a great article on two of them! And this makes me happy for multiple reasons:
1) these are two of the best, hardest working young people on the planet, who both deserve recognition for their talent and excellent work and musicianship, and I could not be prouder of them;
2) not only are they both my students, they are also great friends who met through our studio, which fact demonstrates our goal to create a mutually supportive community of artists of all ages, through networking and performance opportunities. In fact, Jaden will be playing as part of Jacob’s band at the gig mentioned in the article, Prospect Sound Bites this Monday evening;
3) BoCo – represent! These two show the enormous talent and commitment we’ve got here in paradise. We may not be the big city, but yet again, Boulder County proves to be a mecca for more than just patchouli and herbal refreshment
4) this article makes me look like a rock star. I’m good with that.
Enjoy, and congrats to these fantastic musicians. The future is in good hands, and apparently, the future is now.
And check out Jaden and Jacob’s performance schedules and recordings at their web sites:
