Teacher Training Program
We are pleased to announce our new 18-month vocal teacher training program for new voice teachers.
This program gives teachers with music industry education or experience 18 months of instruction and experience before becoming full-fledged Performance High teachers. From there, they move on to become accredited IVTOM (International Voice Teachers of Mix) teachers.
To enter the program, teachers must interview with Performance High and show evidence of existing musical and vocal skills; empathy and emotional intelligence; problem-solving skills; and real music industry experience and/or university level music education (preferably vocal performance or similar).
To graduate from the program, teachers must teach 200 lesson hours; meet weekly in a group to receive instruction on various vocal science and vocal pedagogy topics; meet twice a month one-on-one with a Performance High mentor teacher; work with at least 10 different clients with varying skills and personalities; demonstrate mix in their own voices; demonstrate piano and music theory skills; get positive feedback from their test clients; and get approval from a Performance High mentor.
We welcome our six teacher trainees for the fall 2021-spring 2023 class! Two are existing Performance High instrument teachers, two are long-time Performance High students, and two are outside hires from CU’s music department. All six are incredibly talented vocalists/musicians and wonderful human beings.
If you would like to take lessons with a teacher in training, contact us. Rates are 15% lower for the first year. We are starting to book this cohort with beginning students in December 2021.
