Yesterday’s Performance High Showcase at Roots Music Project (@rootsmusicproject) in Boulder was a total smash, with 40 performers and over 160 total people in attendance!
Two brand-new adult bands we just launched in January, the Strange Attractors and the Little Windmills (@little_windmills_music), each knocked it out of the park with their first-ever performances. Our long-standing band Brit and the Boys performed a great set of almost entirely original music. And then 20+ singers rose to the challenge to front our pro backing band, comprised of @justinleightonlong, @elwooddrums, @stacksbry, and @gnatelmash as musical director, with @mondragonjoe and @kristinhenrysinging having entirely way too much fun on backing vocals!
These shows are some of the highlights of the year. Seeing people get up on stage and face that fear of performing in front of loved ones… seeing singers pick up instruments for the first time… seeing instrumentalists front a band for the first time… seeing people grow in confidence from showcase to showcase… hearing peoples’ original songs come to life in a live band… feeling the joy in the room as the enthusiastic audience erupts every time a singer takes that leap and sticks the landing… we are proud and grateful, each and every time.
We’re proud of everyone who accepted the challenge and did it, and so grateful to the staff and teammates who helped this long, complex gig flow flawlessly from beginning to end.
If you want to get involved in a Performance High band, we have a couple of spots in a couple of existing bands! We’re also starting 2-3 new bands with different types of focus over the course of this year.
Don’t play an instrument? That’s OK, you can learn! We are doing a brand-new Adult Band Camp Accelerator over two Saturdays in June, where you can try one, two, three, or all four core rock band instruments (bass, drums, keys, and electric guitar) in 2-hour group lessons to try out different instruments and see what you might want to play.
