Private Voice Lessons
I am both a voice teacher and a voice coach. A voice teacher teaches you the technical aspects of how to sing: how to breathe, how to support your voice, how to get pleasing tone and good resonance, how to sing healthfully and effortlessly, how to bridge your break, etc. A voice coach helps you interpret your song, find your voice, make songs your own, and improve your performance. I do either or both, depending on your needs, interests and goals.
My teaching approach draws on both classical and modern methods. It leans heavily on the techniques pioneered by Seth Riggs and Brett Manning, techniques which I have found to produce very fast results in most students, but also incorporates proven methods from many different schools and programs.
What you can expect in a voice lesson with me...
- Your lesson is recorded and posted online securely for your reference and practice purposes. Most students make much faster progress with reference to their lesson time. Your recorded lessons are delivered to you online, in most cases before you even get home.
- I make sure to understand your reasons for taking lessons, and tailor your time to reach those goals. Someone who just wants to be comfortable singing in front of a few friends has completely different needs from someone who is preparing to try out for a rock band, or someone recording a jazz album.
- You are safe in the lesson. Although you will be stretched to try new things, you are always in a "safe zone" - if I'm going to ask you to make a silly sound, I'll do it first!
- Lessons are fun and relaxed, but as efficient as possible. I value your time.
- I aim for a balance between fast progress and solid foundation. I don't want you to get bored and frustrated waiting to see progress. So I combine both long-term approaches with quick-fix approaches wherever possible.
- Your voice is safe with me. I won't let you ruin your voice.
- You sing what you want. I can help you narrow down song choices for what's most appropriate for you and your current skill level, but you pick songs you like and want to sing.
- You can record a rough demo in my studio, the same place I record for all my collaborators around the world.
- I can take any track (such as a karaoke track you want to practice to) and quickly transpose it into your key with minimal loss of quality.
- I can take any track and slow it down for you, so that you can work on difficult passages or exercises more slowly and then build up in speed.
Lessons can include any of the following topics, depending on your goals, priorities and interests:

- Re-learning how to sing after a long break
- Connecting through your bridges
- Singing effortlessly
- Singing with more power and resonance
- Singing louder
- Improving your tone and quality of sound
